The lay publications are often too extreme or too woolly, either trying to sensationalise the science (commonly misinterpreted by the media) to get your attention or generalise it to appeal to more readers. On the other hand, there are many open access journals available and academic folk who share nutrition research, but not in a way that many can understand, let alone implement. Our aim is to provide you with clear and simple guidelines on how you can practice healthier behaviours that support your well-being and nutrition goals.

Who is The Diet Consultant?
Hi I’m Sharmain,
I’m a Registered Dietitian specialising in diabetes, sports nutrition, and weight inclusive health. I have over 14 years of experience within specialist areas such as; gastroenterology, elite sports, cardiac health and diabetes.
My experience within elite sports has seen me working as a Sports Dietitian at GSK’s Human Performance Lab, with teams such as Watford FC, Harlequins RFC and Bath RFC as well as with professional individuals within middle distance running, boxing and golf.
I also spent several years working within the food and sports nutrition industry, supporting and advising brands such as Maxinutrition, GSK and Scratch Meals.
I am a member of the British Dietetic Association, registered within the Health Care Professionals Council, the Sports and exercise nutrition register and the Freelance Dietitians Group.

We hear so much ‘nutrition confusion’ everyday…a plethora of conflicting messages about what to eat and what not to eat, literally consume us! We feel passionate about helping to set the record straight, to clean up the clutter and demystify the diet dilemmas.
We believe that every ‘body’ has the right to receive equal healthcare and that people, no matter their size and shape are entitled to healthful advice that offers compassion and understanding which is free from judgement and assumptions.
We don’t believe in unnecessary food avoidance, dietary deprivation and any other fad that lead to a short-term outcome but in the long-term an existence of yo-yo dieting and ‘Food Fear’!
The Diet Consultant strives to be an accessible resource and service where you can find trusted, credible, tailored and approachable nutrition advice.
